TALLADEGA,
AL (October 3, 2008) -- Justin Allgaier led only one lap all afternoon at
Talladega Superspeedway, but it was the one with the checkered flag waving as
he crossed the finish line. Allgaier passed Joey Logano on the final lap of
Friday's ARCA RE/MAX 250 to capture the win. It was Allgaier's second
win in a row and his series-leading fifth win of the season. The 22-year-old
Allgaier has now won both races he has competed in since the
announcement he will drive for Penske Racing in the NASCAR Nationwide Series
next season.
Forty-five cars posted times in qualifying on the 2.66-mile superspeedway
with James Buescher setting fast time. The Plano, TX driver's time was 51.493
seconds or 185.967 mph.
The race featured six leaders among five different drivers. Leaders during
the 94-lap event included; Tom Hessert III 1-51 (51 laps), John Jackson 52-76
(25 laps), Joey Logano 77-90, 93 (15 laps), Patrick Sheltra 91-92 (2 laps) and
Justin Allgaier 94 (1 lap). The race also had seven cautions for a total of 51
laps.
On the race's final lap, Justin Allgaier moved to the outside of Joey Logano
and motored by the 18-year-old phenom who will drive Tony Stewart's Home Depot
#20 car next year in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.
Allgaier crossed the line .113 seconds ahead of Logano for the win. Logano
was followed by Bobby Gerhart, Jeremy Clements and Patrick Sheltra.
Frank Kimmel finished in sixth place followed by John Wes Townley, Mark
Thompson, Chrissy Wallace and Matt Carter in seventh through tenth,
respectively.
With just one race to go on the ARCA RE/MAX Series' 21-race schedule, four
drivers still remain in position to claim the 2008 ARCA RE/MAX Series
championship.
Scott Speed leads the driver rankings with 4885 points followed by Ricky
Stenhouse, Jr. with 4800 points. Justin Allgaier is in third place with 4780
points followed by defending series champion Frank Kimmel with 4740
points.
The champion will be determined this Sunday, October 12th, when the series
caps off its season at Toledo Speedway.
