COMPOUND APPLICATION
WET Compounds
The Hoosier 5” bead size WET compound is designed with a substantial amount of wet traction for effortless maneuverability in heavy rain conditions. The compound is also equipped with higher levels of durability to maintain consistent performance in damp or drying track conditions. The Hoosier 6” bead size WET-CIK uses similar technology as the 5” bead size WET, but it is fitted with a slightly harder, more durable compound for Superkart applications.
DRY Compounds
The A40 is a medium compound designed to offer high levels of traction and durability, making it ideal for open competition or spec series racing. The A40's material composition is formulated to provide consistent, repeatable results on various types of asphalt surfaces.
The R60A is a medium compound designed for open competition racing or ultra-high performance applications. The compound’s unique composition offers high levels of traction, without compromising consistency and durability. The R60A is ideal for those who require an exceptional level of driver confidence and grip.
The R60B is a medium-hard compound that was designed using the R60A platform. This compound has been slightly modified to have a higher cold durometer (2-3 points) and better longevity without negating performance. The R60B offers drivers a more durable high performance tire option that does not degrade on the most demanding classes and track conditions in the industry.
The R60 is a hard compound that is designed to maximize durability on abrasive tracks without sacrificing mechanical grip. The R60 is suitable for those karts that require a tire with moderate grip for high heat, high grip track conditions.
The R70 is an economy sprint compound designed with the budget racer in mind. This distinctive compound exudes superior wear resistance without sacrificing the performance aspect inherent to racing. The R70 is synonymous with consistency and is ideal for clubs or series seeking a low cost tire designed specifically to curb racing expenses and promote driver parity.
3. What air pressure do you recommend in Hoosier Sprint/Enduro/Super Kart Tires?
SPRINT / SOLO / CIRCUIT RACE
5” bead size WET
The recommended starting pressure for the 5” bead size WET is 14-16 psi (cold).
5” bead size R60A & R60B
The recommended starting pressure for the R60A & R60B when used in sprint applications is 10-14 psi (cold). On road race applications, the recommended starting pressure is 12-16 psi (cold). On tracks with higher levels of grip and/or elevated track temperatures, tires will favor a lower starting pressure within the recommended range. On cold tracks with less grip, the tires will perform better at a higher starting pressure within the recommended range.
For Solo/Autocross, the recommended cold starting pressure is 14-16 psi. The R60A is the most suitable compound for this application.
4-CYCLE SPRINT
6” bead size A40
The recommended starting pressure for the A40 is between 10-13 psi (cold). Air pressure change is dependent upon track condition. As the track tightens up, you may want to decrease your air pressure to keep the kart free. If the track loses grip, you may want to increase your air pressure to maintain comfortable grip levels.
5” bead size R60A
The recommended starting pressure for the R60A when used in 4-cycle sprint applications is 12-16 psi (cold). On tracks with higher levels of grip and/or elevated track temperatures, tires will favor a lower starting pressure within the recommended range. On cold tracks with less grip, the tires will perform better at a higher starting pressure within the recommended range.
5” bead size R70
The recommended starting pressure for the R70 is 14-18 psi (cold). Air pressure change is dependent upon track condition. As the track tightens up, you may want to decrease your air pressure to keep the kart free. If the track loses grip, you may want to increase your air pressure to maintain comfortable grip levels.
ENDURO
For the 5.5/11.0-6 R60 Tire Size:
The recommended starting pressure for these tires on cooler tracks that have low to medium grip is between 14-16 psi cold. The recommended starting pressure on warmer, high grip tracks is between 12-13 psi cold. These tires are designed with a softer spring rate. If more overall grip is desired, increasing cold pressures in .5-1 psi increments is recommended. If less overall grip is desired, lowering cold pressures in .5-1 psi increments is recommended.
For the 4.6/10.5-6 R60B and R60
The recommended starting pressure for these tires is between 11-16 psi cold. These tires have a higher spring rate and will provide more grip/response at a lower starting pressure that is within the recommended range. Conversely, the tires will provide less grip at a higher starting pressure within the recommended range.
SUPERKART
6” bead size R60B-CIK
The R60B-CIK has a recommended starting pressure between 12-14 psi cold (0.85-1.0 bar).
6” bead size WET-CIK
The WET-CIK has a recommended starting pressure between 14-17 psi cold (1.0-1.2 bar).
4. What is the proper method for mounting a Hoosier Kart Tire?
DIRECTION OF ROTATION/ MOUNTING INSTRUCTIONS:
Every Hoosier race tire has a four character alphanumeric code embossed into ONE sidewall of the tire (example: F7X2). To be consistent when mounting from set to set, the tire should be placed on the rim so that the serial code faces towards the left side of the vehicle. This applies to tires without directional arrows. On tires with directional arrows, please mount the tire onto the rim so that the tire travels in the direction of the rotational arrow.
Once the tire is on the rim, we recommend placing the tire inside a mounting ring and adjusting the ring to fit snug around the tire. We highly advise using the mounting ring as we believe not using it can over stretch the carcass leading to inconsistent sizing. Never exceed 40 psi to seat beads. Once the tire has seated onto the rim, it is important the tire be initially stretched to about 10 psi over cold starting pressure to get the tire to its proper "profile". The tire should be set at this pressure for a few minutes and then dropped to the desired race pressure. The max inflation pressure is 57 psi (4.0 kg/cm2). Never exceed the max inflation pressure under any circumstance.
